MLAFGCW came into being with the objective of imparting quality education in Commerce for undergraduate girls. In its long tenure of 25 years, the institution has moulded many successful people in the area of Commerce and Business Education. The college is affiliated to Bangalore University and is recognized under section 2F and 12B of UGC Act. Recently, the college was reaccredidated with 'A' grade by NAAC. The commerce forum
"PRAGATHI" Kannada and English is a vibrant forum which takes care of the skill enhancement of the students' en route to their holistic development. The forum conducts various programs like guest lectures, student seminars, presentations, Industrial visits, exhibitions, career guidance programs, surveys, inter-class competitions and inter-collegiate competitions.
The College has a Research centre, which conducts research oriented programs, workshops on methodology of research and statistical analysis techniques, presentation of research papers by students and faculty, in order to create research culture in the college. The college has four PhD holders, 3 in commerce and 1 in physical education. The faculty present papers in various National and International conferences and seminars and also publish articles in various refereed journals.

Placement being one of the objectives of education, the college concentrates on it right from the first year itself. Aptitude Tests, Group Discussions, Personal Interviews and Personality Development Workshops give students, exposure to various requirements of industries. The college also trains them in developing skills and equip them to get jobs through on-campus and off-campus interviews. Women empowerment and legal rights cell:
The cell organizes lectures, workshops, seminars to create awareness among students on women, entrepreneurship and gender related issues. The cell also organizes interactive sessions and workshops on the legal rights of women in the Indian context.
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) Aim of NSS:
"Development of the personality of students through community service"
The motto or watch word of National Service Scheme is 'NOT ME BUT YOU'. This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need of selfless service, appreciation and consideration for fellow human beings.
The student youth are motivated to work for the upliftment of the socially and economically disadvantaged sections. NSS helps develop a sense of service, team spirit, dignity of labor and a change in outlook and attitude towards life and society.
NSS volunteers of our college actively participate in programs, rallies and processions organized by the Bangalore University and NGOs. NSS Camp is regularly organized every year under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Usha Devi thus sensitizing the students on social responsibility and the need for community service.
Our students work in collaboration with a number of organizations as: Namma Mane for HIV/Aids patients, Dharithri a special institute for disabled children, Seva Sadan, PFA( People for Animal Protection), Seva Bharathi charitable trust and Sankey Tank Associates
It is our constant endeavor to encourage and motivate students to participate in various sports activities. Sports develop team spirit, responsibility, leadership quality and ability to handle success and failure. Physical education aims at the overall development of the individual by helping them to be physically fit, mentally sound, emotionally balanced and socially responsible citizens.
Preference is given to students who have represented the State, University and the Nation in sports for admission. Incentives in cash and kind are provided to top performers and those who have represented the State, University and country. Students are trained in Indoor and outdoor sports activities to enable them to participate in various levels of competitions. The students have represented the Bangalore University and Karnataka State in various sports like Athletics, Netball, Hand ball, Hockey, Foot ball and Cricket.
Indoor Activities such as Yoga, Table tennis, Carom, Chess and Out Door Activities Throw Ball, Volley Ball, Net Ball, Kabadi, Kho-Kho, Tennikoit and Shuttle badminton are conducted every year for the students.
