Learning the value of time takes a great deal of trial and error. No matter how much people around you tell you that time is more valuable than money- it really isn’t as easy as it sounds to be right on the dot to keep that appointment with our grandparents, the doctor, or the tutor! Here are five simple ways to make sure you’re never late and are a super success in everything you set out to achieve as a result:
Plan in advance: Smart people plan. If you have a big day ahead, make sure you have everything ready the night before. Ensure your bags are packed, your files and important books and papers ready to go. Make sure your clothes for the next day, right down to your socks and shoes, are in order. Keep nothing for the last moment.
Set reminders: A great way to make sure you’re never out of touch with what you’re supposed to be doing is to set reminders on your phone or organizer. If you have an important appointment at 5PM , and it takes you 20 minutes to get ready and another twenty to travel, set one reminder at 4 PM and yet another reminder at 3 PM. Don’t forget to label both reminders, and set new reminders every day.
Create a to-do list: Save time immensely by knowing exactly what needs to be done. Make a to-do list, listing every possible task you can think of, from repairing old electronics, to buying groceries, to getting your hair cut. As you set out to achieve these tasks one by one, you’ll find yourself becoming more organized, and your life will become less cluttered, and more focused. You’ll save time.
Set the alarm: This one never fails. If you need to be on time, set the alarm. Whether it’s at 4AM in the morning or at 6PM in the evening, if you need a reminder to be on time for your tennis class or book club meeting or tutorial, just set the alarm nice and loud!
Positive Company: Being in positive company helps immensely if you’re trying to turn over a new leaf and become a punctual, highly effective person. If your friends like procrastinating, then it’s likely that you will end up doing so, too. If you have an important deadline coming up and your friends are thinking about a movie marathon together, excuse yourself and focus on the task at hand. Eventually you’ll find friends who have your interests in mind. You’ll also be a more punctual, happier, more effective person.
