What is the test about?

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is the premier all India management entrance exam conducted by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for the admission to the Post-graduate and Fellow Programs in management courses of several management institutes all over India including the IIMs. 

Who is eligible?

  • The candidate must be a graduate with 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of SC/ST/DA/PWD) or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the ministry of HRD, Government of India.
  • Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree / equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.
  • Reservation:
    • 15.00% Scheduled Caste (SC) 
    •  7.50% Scheduled Tribe (ST) 
    •  27.00% Other Backward Classes (OBC) 
    •  3.00% Differently Abled (DA)

What are the test syllabus, duration and format?

CAT is a computer based test, conducted in multiple cities.

The Syllabus consists of:

  • Quantitative Ability
  • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning
Logical Reasoning:

Seating arrangement, blood relations, clocks and calendars, Venn Diagram, Sets, Syllogisms, Puzzles, Assumptions.

Quantitative Ability: 

Number systems, geometry, trigonometry, permutation combination, algebra, mensuration, time and work, averages, percentages, etc.

Data Interpretation: 

Interpretation and analysis of data based on text, tables, graphs (line, area), charts (column, bar, pie), etc.

Verbal Ability:

Reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, fill in the blanks, sentence correction, para completion, fact inference judgement  etc.

CAT Registration shall be taking place from 8-8-2016 to 22-9-2016.

Who conducts the test?

Indian Institute of Management (IIMs), the premier business-schools of India conduct this test for selecting potential students for the next round of admission process for their MBA and Fellowship programmes.

Which colleges/institutes accept the test?
