Carmel Convent School was founded in 1970 for the benefit of the children of Jayanagar and the neighbouring extensions. The school is recognized by the Department of Public Instruction, Karnataka State. The school year begins in June. Today, our school has a strength of around 754 students, a team of well qualified efficient, experienced and dedicated staff of 20 teachers, 6 non-teaching staff working under the able guidance of the headmistress Sister Maria Priya A.C, an efficient administrator committed to her mission. The school is located in 4th ‘T’ block, Jayanagar, one of the prestigious localities of Bangalore that houses a large number of highly qualified citizens. Extra Curricular Activities
A lot of encouragement is given to sports. Sports day is held annually. Out standing sports girls are honoured on this day. Our volleyball, throw ball, basketball, Table tennis & shuttle badminton teams have been representing our state at the national level. Our athletes and swimmers have excelled at the state and national levels. Our students actively participate in Table Tennis tournaments. We have a trained efficient sports teacher, a volleyball coach and a basketball coach. The newly formed netball team which was trained this year has made its debut at the state level. The School band is trained by Mr.Kanthi and they display their skills on special occassions.
To harness the talents of growing students we have the following clubs. Science club, Ecology club, literary club (English, Kannada, Hindi & Sanskrit), Humanities club and sports club. They meet once a week and participate actively in these clubs.
A sound mind resides in a sound body. Yoga classes are conducted regularly under the guidance of an efficient trained yoga instructor.
Art & craft
Art & craft classes are held regularly to develop the aesthetic sense of the students.
The school conducts competitions in co-curricular activities on a regular basis. These include debates, quiz, folk dance, music, art & craft.
The students are encouraged to participate in inter school competitions where they have won prizes on several occasions.
The alumini association was started in 1995. Every year the members meet on the last Saturday of November.
