The Defence Laboratories School was established in the year 1988, under the initiation of Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, the Ex – President of India. It was formally inaugurated on 14th July’ 88 by Dr.P.Rama Rao, the then Director, DMRL.
The school is situated within the RCI residential complex, almost 30 Kms, from the hub of the city and 13 Kms, from Defence Laboratories School, Kanchanbagh, on a sprawling 12 Acre piece of land in a calm, peaceful, serene, absolutely pollution-free locale. Away from the noisy humdrum of the city, the RCI School provides an ideal environment for academic pursuit.
The Defence Laboratories School is run under the aegis of the Vidyalaya Management Committee – RCI.
It is a co-educational institution, cosmopolitan in nature and prepares students for the CBSE examination.
The syllabi being followed is as prescribed by the CBSE with English as the Medium of instruction.
The students of the school are divided into four houses VIZ Ashoka, Gandhi, Patel and Shivaji. Inter-House competitions are conducted in literary and cultural activities and sports and games.

To enhance the scientific and research temperament among the young minds, the science museum is adequately equipped with all its infrastructure. It was established with the collaboration of Birla science museum, Hyderabad under the guidance of Dr. B. M. Siddharth, Director, Birla science museum.
The school offers to its pupils well equipped and separate laboratories for Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to focus on conceptual learning and to make the learning process more interesting and enjoyable. These laboratories can be used even to teach the concepts up to degree level.
The school library spreads over an area of 1200 square feet. And is well stocked with 10,000 volumes of books ranging from science, literature, general knowledge, fiction, encyclopedias and also for competitive exams and 15 periodicals to update the pupils with latest information and current affairs. It has a comfortable seating arrangement to help the pupil to inculcate reading with pleasure.
Computer laboratories are fully air conditioned and are equipped with well maintained computers at the ratio of 1:2 to impart computer education and computer aided learning of different subjects from class I onwards. It keeps the pupils in touch with the ever widening horizons of the world.
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s M. P. Hall is used for various activities like seminars, guest lectures, workshops, and other school functions and co- curricular activities like indoor games like shuttle, badminton etc.
The school has a vast playground and a basketball court, which is also having a gallery, can accommodate 600 to 800 students to view the matches.
Extra Curricular Activities
To bring out the hidden talents of the students, a variety of co-curricular activities such as elocution, essay writing, drawing, painting and singing are conducted as Inter-House Competitions to develop the overall personality of the students. Equal emphasis is given to games and sports, an integral part of the curriculum. Cricket, Volleyball, Football, Basketball and Kho-Kho are a few of the outdoor games while Chess, Carrom and Table – Tennis are a few of the indoor games widely played by the students. In addition to these, students are trained in track and field events.
