Extra Curricular Activities
ART & CRAFT
Art is something creative without which we cannot live. Drawing, painting - fun all over like colours falling all over in shower.
Craft is something very enthusiastic which can be done also with magic. It is a work of excellence which helps in making friends.
QUIZ AND DEBATE CLUB
Our quiz and debate club teaches us how to polish and improve our skills in the above-mentioned fields. Headed by few teachers, the club also has a president, vice-president and secretary, and a retunue of members. Debate, quiz and extempore held in turn every week, though the members seem to favor quiz more than the other two. The tension and excitement that bubbles among the members before a debate or extempore, the expectations that an answer that has been guessed in quiz be correct, all add to the fun of this amazing club. After a full day of studying, the girls tingle with anticipation for the glorious grand finale that is the quiz or debate or extempore that awaits them at the end of a very special Saturday. Our quiz and debate club continues to delight and enthrall us all.
GO AS YOU LIKE
This is the club, which we enjoy with other students of different classes. In this club we play games and interact with each other. Teachers associated to this club enable us to do what we like - singing, dancing, and performing a skit just for fun. We have formed housewise groups, which prepare charts for bulletin boards. We play games and have lots of fun. In this club there is a wonderful spirit of joy and laughter.
Shakespeare once said, "All the world is a stage and men and women merely players".
Well, here at QMS we not only get ready for the world, but also for the dramatic world, having our acting skills in the Dramatic Club.
Headed by teachers, we learn how to perform short plays, and skits. Besides other than the usual club activities the classes are filled with lots of fun and frolic. The student's enthusiasm can only meet the witty jokes and teachings of our teachers.
Inquisitive, enquiring, thirsty.
A child's mind wants to know and know more in an interesting manner. Stories enthrall children and adults. Any message conveyed via a story is understood better because of the characters, which are sometimes real and sometimes larger than life. As a group we read a story prepare props and puppets and enact it. This draws out the children's acting ability, enables them to express and increases their vocabulary. So keep reading.
L.T.S (Leadership Training Service)
The Leadership Training Service is a movement that was founded on 2nd July 1959 at Gothal's School, Kerseong, Darjeeling. It began in Our Lady Queen of the Missions school in the year 1972 and since then it has been a flourishing movement at QMS.
LTS is a response to God's invitation to become responsible Leaders with a motto of "FOR GOD AND COUNTRY". It works towards forming leaders for tomorrow who join hands with God and people to heal our broken world. It challenges and motivates the youth to rise above all odds. It ignites their generosity and sets them off on the path of selfless service, nurturing inborn talents and inculcating humanitarian values. The LTS ers are exposed to spirituality and the role of God in their daily lives. This vision becomes a way of life.
It is a movement that helps the students to develop their leadership qualities and inculcate social awareness in them. There are activities, which teach them leadership skills, communication skills and personality development and character formation.
The QMS unit of LTS consists of students from class 8, 9 and 10. The executive committee is made up of the General Secretary, the Assistant General Secretary, the Treasurer, the Correspondent and the Librarian with two teacher Guides, assist the group. The students organize various social activities like, fund raising for the flood victims, cancer aid and other noble causes, collects old cloths for the poor visits to the old age homes and interacts with our Hindi medium students (The afternoon school for the poor run by the school). These activities help the students to develop social justice and respect for all human beings and enrich their own lives.
The LTS ers have weekly meeting from 1 - 2 pm. Children actively participate at local level programs like the Zonal Day, Sangam and Camps. Independence Day is one big celebration done in collaboration with the YCSers, Guides and the Afternoon School children of our school. The LTS is an important part of the school and it has influenced the students in many ways. We will continue towards our goal of healing this broken world in our own small ways as the LTS motto goes - FOR GOD AND FOR COUNTRY.
THE YCS (Young Christian Students)
The YCS (Young Christian students) is an action group of our school whose membership is open to Christian students of classes VIII - X. This movement aims at developing positive Christian values and self-improving skills in its members through various group activities in and outside school.
The methodology of the group is "See Judge and Act" and the members are encouraged to follow this in all life situations. The meetings are held once a week, usually on Wednesdays, after school hours.
The activities of the group include attending summer camps, Bible quizzes, Zonal meetings, recollections, participating in inter-school competitions and organizing the Friday masses in school. The members organize a "commitment day" every year when along with all other YCS members of various schools they take an oath and commit themselves as dedicated members of the YCS.
Nature Club as its name suggests is dedicated to nature and creating an awareness to protect planet nature. The aim of the Nature Club is to make people aware of disadvantages of cutting down trees. The members of Nature Club are also trying to stop the use of plastic and increase the use of paper. We have made posters and have put them up in classes III to X. And now we are making paper bags and we are planning to distribute them to everyone in the school. We hope that everyone will appreciate our work and co-operate with us to make this world a better place to live in. People are cutting down trees and are spoiling our environment. We want to live in a clean environment and so we should stop them. We want to teach people to plant more trees because if we cut down trees our climate and atmosphere will get affected. Therefore we are trying to spread this message to students so that they may spread the message to other people together we create a green world!
GUIDES AND BULBULS
Guides and Bulbuls are a part of the action group of our school. Bulbul is held for classes III to V whereas Guides for classes VI to X. These units in school form an important part as these groups train our students with discipline and prepare them for the outside world.
Bulbul is the initial step towards Guides. There are different stages starting from 'Pravesh' till 'Heerak Pankh'. In this section the girls are taught about the moral values of life, how to be disciplined and how to keep personal things tidy and clean. From making crafts, food and first aid boxes to stitching, cleaning and serving people. These girls are taken for various workshops and also get to prove whatever they have learned through different competitions held at State and National levels.
Guide is a further branch of Bulbul and is similar to it. Here we are taught many things which will help us in the world outside and further in our lives. We learn to be disciplined and to respect our natural and National heritage. We go for camps located on various sites where we learn how, what, when; to cook and look after ourselves. From exercises and mapping to woodcraft signs and house keeping we learn tremendously from our experience in these activities. Like Bulbul even Guides go for competitions and workshops where they get a platform to prove their abilities and to show their creative minds, which helps them to be responsible citizens and wonderful human beings.
OUR AIM is to provide an Integral formation to our pupils so that they can grow towards human maturity and conscientize them towards their vital role in the life of the society for which, as adults, they will have to share responsibilities. In school the young girls of any religious family find scope within their own cultural milieu to reflect on their lives in the light of their faith and to develop not only in knowledge and skills but also in the wisdom which is the fruit of reflection on life and its lessons. As they grow towards human maturity they are enabled with the help of the Divine Spirit and the support of the school to find meaning and purpose in their lives and are inspired to live and work for the building up of a just and fraternal society.
While preparing the students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ICSE) and the Indian School Certificate Examination (ISC) we endeavor to develop their intellectual, moral and spiritual potentiality, helping them to grow into integrated persons with self esteem and positive values in life. We strive to expand the students' mental horizons by promoting and strengthening intercultural experiences, and instill in them the awareness of equality, social justice and world peace.
