Activity High School is an offshoot of the New Activity School founded in 1953 by eminent educationist, Mrs. Dolat Doongaji
Due to the lack of Montessori Schools in the vicinity, Mrs. Doongaji took it upon herself to start her own school.
After a few months of hunting for a new place, she found an open terrace at Hughes Road (now 13 N.S.Patkar Marg), which belonged to the Tejpal Trust.
Laxmichand Tejpal, the Trustee of Tejpal Trust, was impressed by Mrs. Doongaji's personality and agreed to build a Nursery School for her on his terrace. With financial aid from her mother she had rooms built the New Activity School. The school grew like Alice in Wonderland's magic cake, reaching the strength of about 50 children.
Under the able guidance of Principal late Mrs. Mani Rustomjee, the School reached the pinnacle of its glory and earned a good name.
It remained a Primary School for 14 years. In 1968, it became a full-fledged institution – "THE ACTIVITY HIGH SCHOOL".
The present building is called Sahny Villa, and is situated at 2 N.Gamadia Road, off Pedder Road.
Three tenants and a few unauthorized shops occupied the existing School building. Mrs. Doongaji and Mrs. Bagli worked very hard to get rid of all the shops and two tenants to get the extra space. Eventually we managed to break the West side of the building and build a four-storey structure with some space for the playground. Mr. Doongaji provided us with legal advice and his support was pivotal in school's upbringing.
While the School building was being conceptualized. I spent innumerable hours visiting other Schools reviewing their architectural designs, lawyer's offices to ensure that we did not go outside the law and meet building codes, the B.M.C. and Urban Development Department at Mantralaya, to get the required licenses and permissions to get our plans passed.
I feel connected to this school on a personal level. As I ran the school canteen, visited numerous organizations in order to get advertisements and sponsorships. These would be used to host fundraisers to help build the school. A combined venture with the invaluable contribution of Mr. Ajit Khatri, the architect, late Mr. Aspi Irani, the builder and Mrs. D. Doongaji who approved and guided the final design and layout, the existing 4 storey school building on Pedder Road rose up as a proud structure in 1982.
In 1972, the Piroja Vasunia Education Trust, a Public Charitable Trust, registered with the Income Tax Act, 1961 under Section 12A was formed to collect the corpus for the new School building. The Trust is registered under 80(G) of the Income Tax Act 1961.
In December 1973, the school had gone for a trip to Delhi. They were lucky to have had the opportunity to meet the then Prime Minister, late Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
Seen in the picture, alongside Mrs. Indira Gandhi, is our esteemed Founder Principal late Mrs. Dolat Doongaji, and sitting on extreme right (in the first line) is our present Principal, Mrs. P. Bagli.

So there we are, winding down our exploration through the Activity clan. My commitment to this school began at the age of 13 when I started living with and as a part of the Doongaji family. I had the opportunity of studying in Std's V and VI of Activity High School and not further because at that time our classes were only upto Std. VI.
While in college and still living with the Doongaji family I used to help Mrs. Doongaji teach classes at her school, and help promote the school. After completing the Bachelors, I joined the school in 1972 as a teacher and personal assistant to Mrs. Doongaji and have been working there ever since, helping to collectively mould the institution to where it is today.
I am proud to be the Principal of ACTIVITY HIGH SCHOOL, one of the best schools in South Mumbai, and carry the torch of excellence in education that was set ablaze by Mrs. D. Doongaji moving forward to greater heights.
Our school is dedicated to providing its students with thehead start in today's competitive world. Our mission is to educate children through a comprehensive academic curriculum, supported by critical thinking skills, as well as communication development.
Activity was a school founded by Zoroastrians. We take pride in enrolling a large number of Parsi students, along side with being a secular school open and equal to children from all religions and walks of life.
We pride ourselves on our academic strength too. Activity has held the flag high with a 100% of our students graduating every year at the ICSE exams. Our students have always been in the top percentile and have moved on to some of the best colleges and institutions in the nation and abroad.
Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, President, Professor, and the man who personifies the spirit of education, has rightly said that "education is there to help us find out what we are and for, in the world and the three R's of education should be replaced by the three H's i.e. Head, Heart and Hands".
Activity High School is affiliated to the Council of the Indian School Certificate Examination (I.C.S.E.) New Delhi for Std. IX and X. It is a co-educational school. There are nearly 1000 students on the roll, and it offers education from Toddlers to Std. X.
